Me and my wife Sudatta were on a week long vacation to Sri Lanka in January’24. This was our maiden trip to Sr Lanka and it was arranged by Silvertrips in a wonderful manner. On my first enquiry to Chhavi with a tentative itinerary and preference, the response was fast and excellent. After a nice booking experience, we were welcome by an English speaking experienced chauffer cum guide at Colombo airport. Guide Kumara arranged our journey and halts in an excellent manner and kept on creating experience for us according to our taste. Our first half of the tour was in the heritage circuit covering Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Ritigala, Habarana, Sigiriya and Pollonaruwa; and we covered all these while staying in the Amara forest resort for three nights. With my interest in ancient Sinhala history, he took extra care to give me the flavour I wanted… continuously exchanging notes with us on the ancient stories which are a blend of history and folklore. At Anuradhapura, Kumara even requested another local specialist guide Darshana to accompany us. In the second half of the tour we stayed at the beautiful Ekho Surf beach resort for four nights; and we travelled to Hikkaduwa, Galle, Kosgodo turtle hatchery and Maduganga wetland in this period. We had a superb experience in all these places and had an excellent relaxed beach stay in the resort which is bang on the beach. While on the return on the last day, Kumara accompanied us to Colombo Ramakrishna Mission, other sight seeing of Colombo. Before reaching airport, we saw the ancient Kelaniya temple and immersed ourselves in a splendid ambience of the Buddhist religious practices and prayers being observed by the devotees. We had a complete rest day in between, and on Kumara’s advice we visited the Lunuganga – the beautiful farm house of the architect late Geoffrey Bawa. In addition to the sight seeing all through the tour, we had some moments of memorable experience; to name a few – the ritual of first public dance presentation by a group of students in front of the sacred Bo tree in Anuradhapura, the evening walk in the Ritigala forest monastery, the walk to the Sigiriya frescos, Boating in the Maduganga wetland during sunset, Beach at the Bentota resort and festival in Kelaniya temple complex.

I was to travel to Ibiza which is an island on the Mediterranean Sea about 550 kms from Madrid.
